1. Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US – 14″ – Recommended 2 in 1 Laptop with Stylus Pen

First we have our personal favorite 2 in 1 laptop. The reason we have chosen this is because it offers an unprecedented  value when you take performance / dollar factor.

This is a 14 inch convertible laptop with a pen and has an FHD touchscreen. 14 inch is generally seen by most content creators as a good compromise between portability and screen viewing comfort.

Now the best part about this laptop is the processor. This laptop features an awesome AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor. And in our opinion. this processor currently defines the mid range.

From sheer performance to the economical price tag it offers, there is little competition to this processor. Therefore, for the processor alone, we highly recommend this as the best 2 in 1 laptop with stylus.

Compared to its Intel Core i5 counterpart from the 10th gen, the Ryzen 5 4500U is fairly more powerful and at the same time comes in laptops with cheaper overall price tags.

But besides a highly valued processor, this laptop also features a huge 16 GB of RAM. This is worthy of being used in professional environments.

So if you want use your stylus for complex digital art, you would have little issue with this machine.

The 256 GB SSD is a bit small, but for the price you cant really ask for more. Besides, you can always expand your storage by investing on an external hard drive.

All in all, there is absolutely no reason why we would not recommend this as the best 2 in 1 laptop with pen. It offers high end performance at a mid range price.

2. HP Envy X360 – Large Screen Convertible Laptop

Next up we have another excellent laptop that comes with a digital pen. This time it hails from the beautiful HP Envy series.

For starters, in terms of performance, this laptop is more or less similar to the the Lenovo Flex 14 above. It features the same AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor along with a large 16 GB of DDR 4 RAM.

However, this is much more expensive for two main reasons. For starters, this has a large 15.6″ screen. While 15.6″ screen is not as portable as a 14″ counterpart, as far as work comfort goes, this is an excellent size to have.

If you want to create your digital art on a comfortably large and easy to see canvas, than a 15.6″ should be the way to go.

On top of that, unlike the previous laptop, this features a large 1 TB of SSD storage. This is large enough to store and backup your media files.

Besides all that, the ENVY series is generally seen as a premium series. From their gorgeous looks to their very light form factor, HP Envy laptop are exceptional devices.

Therefore, if large screen and a large storage with a powerful processor is what your require, then this is the best 2 in 1 laptop with stylus in our opinion.

3. Microsoft Surface Go – Detachable Type Convertible Laptop – Affordable Option

Next up we have a rather affordable and a very popular laptop for content creators. As far as the popularity goes, Microsoft Surface Go requires no introduction. These are highly coveted devices for content creators or for those who seek portability.

For starters, while this is a 2 in 1 laptop but unlike the laptops above, this is not a hinge rotate convertible laptop. Instead, this is a detachable type.

Hence, the hardware here is located behind the screen instead of underneath the keyboard. This in turn means that this laptop is primarily intended to be used as a tablet than a laptop.

It is for this reason that this offers a small 10″ screen that is very easy to carry around.

It should be noted, however, that the keyboard and the Stylus needs to be purchased separately. But even then, the price of this comes down to be quite affordable.

As far as the performance goes, this is a weaker laptop compared to the option above. It features an Intel Pentium processor along with 8 GB of RAM. This is good enough for basic designing and for note taking.

Fortunately though, the Microsoft Surface products are highly optimized and work perfectly smooth even on weaker hardware.

In short, if you are looking for a detachable type option, then this is the best 2 in 1 laptop with stylus support in our opinion.

4. Dell 13 7000 – 13.3″ Small Form Factor Premium 2 in 1 Laptop

Here we have a premium machine and hence it should be mentioned from the get go that this is going to be an expensive laptop. However, there are plenty of tricks and features that makes it a worthy machine if you have the budget.

For starters, this is basically a convertible Ultrabook. Ultrabooks are premium devices that use high quality components and exquisite aesthetics with a powerful hardware.

They are used by professional and by those who love high end gorgeous machines.

Now unlike the previous laptops mentioned here, this features an ACTIVE digital pen and not a Passive one. An Active stylus adds multiple functionalities as it communicates with the device unlike a passive one which just replaces your finger for precision control.

Moreover, this is a much smaller laptop with a 13.3″ form factor. 13.3″ laptops are highly portable and offer a much longer lasting battery life as well.

One thing to note here is that the screen offers a huge 4K resolution. A large pixel real estate is often a must for digital content creators who seek to create highly detailed pieces.

at the center of this laptop likes the Intel Core i7-10510U processor. In terms of performance it is weaker than the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, however, for a highly compact device such as this, it is exceptionally good.

You should have no issues performing most, if not all, kinds of designing, creation and editing jobs on this.

Furthermore it features a good 16 GB of DDR 4 RAM as you would expect from a high end device.

Lastly it features a good 512 GB of SSD along with the Intel 32 GB Intel Optane Memory. This is a special RAM that helps boost the performance particularly of the storage device.

In short, if you are looking for a premium ultrabook model, then this is the best 2 in 1 laptop with stylus.

5. Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 – 12.2″ – Premium Convertible Chromebook with Stylus

Lastly, here we have a Chromebook and a fairly powerful one. This is particularly for those who are heavily invested in the Google infrastructure or for those who perform all of their activities online.

Chromebooks are designed to utilize cloud computing and internet in general to its max capacity.

You will notice that Chromebooks, like this, do not feature a high end hardware. For instance, this particular Chromebook features only 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of weak eMMC storage and a weak Intel Core m3 processor.

Therefore, when it comes to sheer performance, this is definitely not the winner here.

But the point of Chromebooks is not to win the performance race anyways.

If you use online software for taking notes, word processing, video editing, photo editing, designing etc, then you do not need a powerful internal hardware anyways. There is an online cloud based applications for almost anything these days.

So if you do fall in to the category of heavy internet and cloud application user, then this is the best 2 in 1 laptop with stylus for you.

This particular model offers a built in stylus. It offers a very light form weighing only 3 pounds. It offers a comfortably large 12.2″ screen as well as 2 cameras back and front facing.

How to Choose the Right 2 in 1 Laptop with Stylus Support?

best 2 in 1 laptops with stylus

The model of the 2 in 1 laptop and type of hardware configuration that you choose to accompany it would depend largely upon the type of work you wish to perform on it.

A 2 in 1 laptop with stylus for note taking would have a different hardware configuration than the one that is worthy of being used by a digital artists.

Hence, before you delve into how to choose the right model for yourself, you first need to gauge your use case.

A Note on Stylus

Stylus itself does not need a powerful hardware. Stylus is nothing but a replacement for your fingers, albeit it is more precise. Like a finger, it induces electrical charge on the surface of a capactive touchscreen enabling it to interact with the screen.

In most cases, the 2 in 1 laptops here come with a PASSIVE STYLUS. A PASSIVE STYLUS has no electronic component and does not communicate with the device. It has no buttons, no Bluetooth pairing etc.

An Active Stylus, on the other hand, is an electronic component that can give you myriad of useful features. However such stylus pens are expensive and only support designated devices.

Let us now look at how to choose the right laptop.

Low Key Work – Word Processing, Note Taking

If you want to a 2 in 1 laptop for mere note taking, word processing and simple navigation with stylus, then you don’t need a very power machine at all.

A good compact laptop with a small screen and a fairly low powered processor such as an Intel Pentium, Celeron etc processors would do just fine.

Of course, as soon as you start delving into professional software, you will start to see lag.

You will notice, however, that 2 in 1 laptops rarely come with entry level hardware. Most of the 2 in 1 laptops that you will encounter will feature either a mid range or a high end hardware.

We personally recommend that you stick with the mid range convertible  laptops if you are looking for an economical option.

Mid-Level Work – Small Graphic / Digital Content Creation

If you create digital content and work on small graphics perhaps for your website, Pinterest graphics or just as a hobby, then a good mid range 2 in 1 laptop would do just fine.

A mid range 2 in 1 laptop features a processor along the lines f an Intel Core i5 or an AMD Ryzen 5 processor.

These days Intel Core i3 and AMD Ryzen 3 processors are also considered mid range processor but you must be aware of that fact that all processors even within a series are not created equally.

Some are faster and others are not. Take for instance the Intel Core i5-1035G1 vs the Core i5-10300H. Despite both being mobile grade processor and both coming from the same Core i5 line of processors from the same 10th generation, the Core i5-10300H is much more superior.

While both of these processors are great mid range processors and good for content creators, the choice would depend upon your budget and use case in the end.

If you want sheer performance, Core i5-10300H is a better option. If you want an option that promotes long battery life, Core i5-1035G1 is the way to go.

However, the best processor for mid range 2 in 1 laptop with stylus at the moment, in our opinion, is the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U. There is literally no competition to this very fairly priced processor that is significantly faster than its competition found in the Core i5-10350U and the Core i5-1035G1 processors.

Professional-Level Work – Large Photo and Video Editing – Artwork

graphic designing

If you are professional artist working on very large and intricate designs, then nothing but a premium 2 in 1 laptop with a powerful hardware should suit you.

When we talk about power, we generally talk about having a Core i7 or a Ryzen 7 processor. Unfortunately, you should note that having a Core i7 or a Ryzen 7 label does not necessarily make a processor high end.

Take for instance the Intel Core i7-1065G7 highly throttled down processor and compare it with an inexpensive mid range AMD Ryzen 5 4500U. You will notice that the Ryzen 5 4500U would be must more powerful despite being much cheaper.

Hence when we talk about high end machines, we are generally referring to them having a high amount of RAM (at least 16 GB). A large SSD storage and a beautiful 4K screen that at least cover the sRGB color space.
