What to Look for in a Video Editing Motherboard?
Getting a motherboard is almost directly related to the quality of the rest of your components.
If you have a high end CPU, particularly, with a lot of cores i.e 16 cores, and very high base and turbo frequency, then a good premium motherboard is highly recommended.
A good motherboard features a good phase power design with quality and top notch VRMs. As such, it has excellent voltage control, prevents the system from heating up and also allows overclocking.
Other factors that may matter for video editing is how many M.2 slots you want, whether you need a thunderbolt port on it; built-in WiFi, version of the PCIe and video output ports, the amount of PCIe slots and the built-in sound card are some of the other factors that may matter.
Striking the Right Balance
The idea here is to strike the right balance. If you are getting an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X with 16 cores of processors, you would not want to cheap out on the motherboard.

If you have a limited budget, we recommend that you settle for nothing less than an Intel Core i5 or an AMD Ryzen 5 processor.
Also, the higher the core count, the better would be the performance particularly when rendering a lot of VFX at a time. Almost all of the editing software these days make use of the higher core count.
Other than the core count, the single most important factor of a processor is the single Core speed. The higher the single core, the better is the performance.
Do You Need a Lot of Cores for Video Editing?

RAM, along with the CPU, is one of the most critical component for video editors.
The higher the RAM, the more capacity your PC will have to cache preview files.
A higher RAM particularly matters when you are dealing with high resolution video such as 4K. The higher the RAM, the better would be your previewing experience.
We recommend that you go for at least 8 GB of RAM – 16 GB if you are a beginner and at least 32 GB if you are a professional.
But in the end, the amount of RAM you get depends upon the length, complexity of the project and how many programs you have open at the same time.
Does the MHz Frequency of the RAM Matter for Video Editing
Honestly, we would not bother much with high speed RAMs. High speed RAMs are generally gamer-oriented and they do produce some excellent results.
However, the higher the frequency the more expensive they are and the performance difference in most video editing software is variable.
In some software (Adobe Premiere Pro) using certain benchmarks, high frequency may even perform worse.
In others, the improvement is only marginal yet the cost of procuring high frequency RAM is too high.
2666 MHz – 3200 MHz is good range to aim for, although 2400 MHz DDR 4 would be quite sufficient too.

Do You Need Graphics Card for Video Editing?
The importance of GPU is relative. The usage of a GPU is based upon the software of your choice.
Adobe Premier for instance makes heavy use of a good GPU.
